Tiktok can lead to cyber bullying: Adani

BY GRACE AUKA-SALMANG

Tiktok is not helpful and can lead to cyber bullying harassments amongst young adults, says Chief Censor of the Office of Censorship, Jim Abani.

He said with the national Isolation strategy in place and the extension of school holidays, students and young adults tend to create tiktoks using the social media platform.

“Tiktok is a social media platform for creating, sharing and discovering short videos.

The app is used by young people as an outlet of express themselves through singing, dancing, comedy, and lip syncing and allows users to create videos and share them across a community.

“Tiktok, is not helpful because if your actions are not right, your actions will be viewed and different types of comments can lead as Cyber bullying and Cyber harassments that will be dangerous in your young lives as students.

“Such actions can pull you down your integrity and your parents as well,” he said.

Mr Abani said that to those staying home and are feeling bored during the isolation period and you are creating TIKTOK, he stated:

“I guess there are better things to do as such as doing your school work and assignments or preparing yourselves for coming national exams that will determine your destiny.

“Some people are creating Tiktok scenes depicting graphic or prolong violence, torture, cruelty and human degradation and some are containing language that is offensive and contradictory of Papua New Guinea customs.

“As parents we must encourage more on self-respect and human decency with exercising more parental responsibility at all time.

“You may consider that may be fun and exciting to you but students don’t really know that they are abusing the system and leads them to nothing.

“As the Chief Censor of PNG, during this lockdown time, my appeal to our children to use the quality time to prepare themselves for their education and prepare them0selves because our country needs them as future leaders tomorrow,” Mr Abani said.
