Tilton Upper Middle School Begins Green Ribbon Week March …

Tilton Upper Middle School is raising awareness and education about bullying prevention with Green Ribbon Week events, March 16-20.

The school events help to promote their “respectful and kind to others, outstanding attitude and to always be sage and responsible for learning (ROAR)” character building mission through several activities. Each day provides a new challenge for students by asking them to dress a certain theme, wearing pins, sitting with a new classmate at lunch and creating a paper chain to be aware of potential risks of bullying.

Monday, March 16, is “Be Different Monday.” To begin Green Ribbon Week, Tilton Upper Middle School celebrates individuality by conducting a lesson and activity on understanding of others titled “In Your Shoes.” Students and staff are asked to wear silly socks.

Tuesday is “Great Choice Green Day.” For St. Patrick’s Day, students should wear green. Former U.S. Fencing Olympian, Molly Sliney, speaks at 8:45 a.m. on setting goals and overcoming obstacles. A lesson on “The Difference Between Joking, Teasing and Bullying,” will be given at 10:40 a.m.

Wednesday is “Lei Off Bullying.” Students are reminded that kindness is key, by being given a green lei and green awareness pins to “Lei Off Bullying.”

Thursday is “Take a Stand, Lend a Hand.” Tilton Upper challenges its students by asking them to sit next to someone different at lunch or to offer someone who needs help. Each student will be given a green anti-bullying band, green paper to trace their hand for a tree display, given a lesson on kindness at 10:15 a.m. and given a lesson on bullying at 2 p.m.

For the last day of the week, Friday, each student will be given a green slip of paper to create a chain for “Be a Player in Prevention” day. School Resource Officer, Nicole Donnelly will speak about preventing school violence.
