Torrox and Colmenar make a stand against cyber bullying …

THE Medium of theatre has been utilised by students from across Torrox and Colmenar to educate and inform about the dangers and damage caused by cyber bullying.

A total of 740 students from across 11 schools have been brought together by the Education Service of the Diputación de Málaga to view the performance which took place at the Edgar Neville auditorium in Malaga on Thursday 7 November.

Entitled Belcebú, they play centres around the lead character of Max, who after experiencing tough times and bullying throughout his life, pushes through using his inner strength and courage and the help of those around him.

The play involved the participation of students, teachers and parents and played to an audience of 14 to 18 year olds, providing an important message to parents and students on everything surrounding the difficult subject matter.

Parents were encouraged to take away the knowledge of awareness and training on how to spot the signs of bullying and what to do in the case that their child is a victim.

It also turned the tables on the mindsets of children that become bullies and what causes them to behave in a way that damages others.

Following the performance, a workshop was held to discuss what they had just experienced and how it made them feel.

Numerous role playing events and interactions took place to understand the body’s reaction to bullying as well how it can affect a child mentally.

The session ended with a healthy debate on what measures can be taken in schools and at home to battle the ongoing issue that is blighting schools around the world.
